Sustainable Agriculture
Sustainable agriculture can be a cornerstone of environmental and community resilience in Afghanistan. At Samsoor Watan, we recognize that agriculture is not only a source of livelihood for many Afghan families but also a critical factor in the country’s overall environmental health and economic growth. Our goal is to support farmers in adopting practices that are both environmentally friendly and economically viable in order to ensure food security while protecting the land and natural resources.
Resilient Farming Practices
We promote farming techniques that conserve water, soil, and biodiversity. In Afghanistan, where water scarcity and soil degradation are major challenges, our programs focus on methods that improve land health and resource efficiency. Techniques like crop rotation, reduced tillage, and organic fertilizers help restore soil fertility, prevent erosion, and reduce the need for chemical inputs, which are harmful to the environment and local health.
Climate-Smart Agriculture
Our approach includes introducing climate-smart agricultural practices that equip farmers to adapt to changing climatic conditions. This includes introducing drought-resistant crop varieties, efficient irrigation systems like drip irrigation, and rainwater harvesting techniques to conserve water resources. By promoting these practices, we help farmers build resilience to climate variability, reduce risks from climate-induced disasters, and ensure stable food production.
Training and Capacity Building
We provide hands-on training for farmers, agricultural workers, and local leaders in sustainable farming techniques. These trainings include practical demonstrations and workshops that cover a wide range of topics, from sustainable land management and organic farming to financial literacy and market access for sustainable products. By building local capacity, we empower farmers to take control of their agricultural practices and improve their livelihoods.
By implementing these sustainable agricultural practices, Samsoor Watan aims to support Afghan farmers in adapting to the impacts of climate change in an effort to restore land health, and to ensure a secure and sustainable food system for the country. Sustainable agriculture is key to achieving both local resilience and broader environmental goals, and we are dedicated to fostering an agricultural sector that respects the land, enhances livelihoods, and supports Afghanistan’s long-term sustainability.
